{"id":962,"date":"2013-01-01T10:00:56","date_gmt":"2013-01-01T09:00:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/lnx.omccaprella.it\/?post_type=prodotti&#038;p=962"},"modified":"2020-04-17T15:07:57","modified_gmt":"2020-04-17T14:07:57","slug":"terrazzo-tiles-processing-technology","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.omccaprella.it\/en\/terrazzo-tiles-processing-technology","title":{"rendered":"Terrazzo Tiles Processing Technology"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"fusion-fullwidth fullwidth-box fusion-builder-row-1 nonhundred-percent-fullwidth non-hundred-percent-height-scrolling\" style=\"--awb-border-radius-top-left:0px;--awb-border-radius-top-right:0px;--awb-border-radius-bottom-right:0px;--awb-border-radius-bottom-left:0px;--awb-flex-wrap:wrap;\" ><div class=\"fusion-builder-row fusion-row\"><div class=\"fusion-layout-column fusion_builder_column fusion-builder-column-0 fusion_builder_column_1_1 1_1 fusion-one-full fusion-column-first fusion-column-last\" style=\"--awb-bg-size:cover;--awb-margin-bottom:0px;\"><div class=\"fusion-column-wrapper fusion-flex-column-wrapper-legacy\"><div class=\"fusion-title title fusion-title-1 fusion-title-text fusion-title-size-one\" style=\"--awb-margin-top-small:0px;--awb-margin-right-small:0px;--awb-margin-bottom-small:20px;--awb-margin-left-small:0px;\"><h1 class=\"fusion-title-heading title-heading-left\" style=\"margin:0;\">Raw Materials<\/h1><span class=\"awb-title-spacer\"><\/span><div class=\"title-sep-container\"><div class=\"title-sep sep-double sep-solid\" style=\"border-color:#e0dede;\"><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-1\"><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The classic marble\/cement tile was born, indicatively, towards the end of the nineteenth century in Italy.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Obtained with <strong>marble grit<\/strong> and <strong>cement<\/strong> , it is inspired by the splendid &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Terrazzo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong><em>Venetian Terrazzo<\/em><\/strong><\/a>&#8221; (hence the name of Terrazzo): typical flooring of the Venetian villas, whose peculiar characteristics were the realization on site and use of marble and various stones granules, tied with pebble lime or cement mixed with fine grit or <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Opus_signinum\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">cocciopesto (opus signinum)<\/a>.<br \/>\nThis characteristic pavement has ancient origins that have their roots in ancient Greece, passing through the villas of the Roman Empire.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Modern <strong>Terrazzo<\/strong> tiles (<em>Marble\/Cement<\/em>) combine robustness and quality with a highly automated production process capable of obtaining considerable production capacity.<br \/>\nIn addition, the value and the physical-chemical characteristics of the tile can be increased with<em> grinding\/polishing processes<\/em>,<em> anti-stain treatments<\/em>,<em> chamfering and sandblasting<\/em>, as well as the possibility of using <em>special chemical additives<\/em> or <em>alternative raw materials<\/em> to obtain innovative finishes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The <strong>Terrazzo<\/strong> tile can be produced both for <strong>indoor flooring<\/strong> (<em>flat polished <\/em><em>tile<\/em>) and for <strong>outdoor flooring<\/strong> (<em>with design<\/em>), even with high thickness suitable for the transit of heavy vehicles.<br \/>\nCan be also produced splendid tiles with decoration (<em>encaustic or mosaic tile<\/em>) using a semi-automated process, which combines technology with craftsmanship.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This type of tile is made up of two different overlapping layers:<\/p>\n<\/div><ul style=\"--awb-line-height:23.8px;--awb-icon-width:23.8px;--awb-icon-height:23.8px;--awb-icon-margin:9.8px;--awb-content-margin:33.6px;--awb-circlecolor:#a0ce4e;--awb-circle-yes-font-size:12.32px;\" class=\"fusion-checklist fusion-checklist-1 fusion-checklist-default type-icons\"><li class=\"fusion-li-item\" style=\"\"><span class=\"icon-wrapper circle-yes\"><i class=\"fusion-li-icon fa-check fas\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><\/i><\/span><div class=\"fusion-li-item-content\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>First Layer<\/strong>: the top layer (<em>upper face of the finished tile<\/em>), richer and more valuable, obtained by mixing water with Portland cement (<em>generally white, but in some productions also gray<\/em>), marble powder and marble grit, of various grain sizes. This layer is also the richest in water.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/li><li class=\"fusion-li-item\" style=\"\"><span class=\"icon-wrapper circle-yes\"><i class=\"fusion-li-icon fa-check fas\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><\/i><\/span><div class=\"fusion-li-item-content\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Second Layer<\/strong> (<em>also named as substrate<\/em>): the lower (<em>bottom face of the finished tile<\/em>), semi-dry layer, which has the main task of absorbing the water of the <em>First Layer<\/em>, becoming its support layer, increasing the strength of the tiles; it is obtained by mixing, together with a small quantity of water, gray Portland cement, crashed stone sand and siliceous sand.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/li><\/ul><div class=\"fusion-clearfix\"><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"fusion-layout-column fusion_builder_column fusion-builder-column-1 fusion_builder_column_1_1 1_1 fusion-one-full fusion-column-first fusion-column-last\" style=\"--awb-bg-size:cover;--awb-margin-top:10px;--awb-margin-bottom:0px;\"><div class=\"fusion-column-wrapper fusion-column-has-shadow fusion-flex-column-wrapper-legacy\"><div class=\"fusion-title title fusion-title-2 fusion-title-text fusion-title-size-one\" style=\"--awb-margin-top-small:0px;--awb-margin-right-small:0px;--awb-margin-bottom-small:20px;--awb-margin-left-small:0px;\"><h1 class=\"fusion-title-heading title-heading-left\" style=\"margin:0;\">Production Process<\/p><\/h1><span class=\"awb-title-spacer\"><\/span><div class=\"title-sep-container\"><div class=\"title-sep sep-double sep-solid\" style=\"border-color:#e0dede;\"><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"fusion-title title fusion-title-3 fusion-title-text fusion-title-size-two\" style=\"--awb-margin-top-small:0px;--awb-margin-right-small:0px;--awb-margin-bottom-small:20px;--awb-margin-left-small:0px;\"><h2 class=\"fusion-title-heading title-heading-left\" style=\"margin:0;\"><strong>Batching Process<\/strong><\/h2><span class=\"awb-title-spacer\"><\/span><div class=\"title-sep-container\"><div class=\"title-sep sep-double sep-solid\" style=\"border-color:#e0dede;\"><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-2\"><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The first step of production process consists in the precise dosage of the inert materials; this phase is carried out by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.omccaprella.it\/en\/portfolio-items\/automatic-batching-plant-for-the-1st-and-2nd-layer\"><strong>Batching Plants<\/strong><\/a>, composed of a variable number of hoppers inside which the raw materials are loaded. During the production cycle the aggregates are unloaded, consecutively, onto the <em>conveyor\/weigher belt<\/em>, on which they are weighed thanks to the help of electronic load cells and digital weighing systems.<br \/>\nThen the raw materials are conveyed to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.omccaprella.it\/en\/portfolio-items\/planetary-mixer-mod-km270\"><strong>Planetary Mixing Device mod. KM270<\/strong><\/a> that prepare first and second layer mixing using automatic water batching system with an electronic litre-counter.<\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"fusion-title title fusion-title-4 fusion-title-text fusion-title-size-two\" style=\"--awb-margin-top-small:0px;--awb-margin-right-small:0px;--awb-margin-bottom-small:20px;--awb-margin-left-small:0px;\"><h2 class=\"fusion-title-heading title-heading-left\" style=\"margin:0;\"><strong>Pressing and Demoulding<\/strong><\/h2><span class=\"awb-title-spacer\"><\/span><div class=\"title-sep-container\"><div class=\"title-sep sep-double sep-solid\" style=\"border-color:#e0dede;\"><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-3\"><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The mixing of the <strong>First Layer<\/strong> is conveyed to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.omccaprella.it\/en\/portfolio-items\/automatic-batcher-distributor-of-the-1st-layer-mod-km200\"><strong>Automatic Batcher Distributor Mod. KM200<\/strong><\/a> of the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.omccaprella.it\/en\/portfolio-items\/automatic-rotational-press-mod-om600-300t\">Automatic Press Mod. OM600-300T<\/a><\/strong>, then automatic dosing is carried out inside the molds where the mortar is compacted by electric vibrators; the mixing of the second layer is conveyed to the <strong>Automatic Charger Mod. DC200<\/strong>, which performs the dosage and shaving in the molds of the Press.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The <strong>Second Layer<\/strong> is pressed against the first layer inside the mould from the Pressing Group, the pressing force applied is between 110 &#8211; 160 Kg\/Cm<sup>2 <\/sup>: the pressing phase, in addition to compacting the materials, forces the passage of the water from the first layer to the second layer, semi-dry, obtaining a compact tile which, although still fresh, can be manipulated and moved.<br \/>\nThen the tiles, extracted from the moulds by the Demoulding Group and taken from the Automatic Extraction Device, are conveyed and stocked in special metal containers by our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.omccaprella.it\/en\/portfolio-items\/automatic-drawing-conveyor-mod-om50f\"><strong>Automatic Drawing Conveyor Mod. OM50\/F<\/strong><\/a> to be finally sent to the storage area for natural curing.<br \/>\nAll operations are controlled by an Electric Control Panel with programmable PLC Logic.<\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"fusion-title title fusion-title-5 fusion-title-text fusion-title-size-two\" style=\"--awb-margin-top-small:0px;--awb-margin-right-small:0px;--awb-margin-bottom-small:20px;--awb-margin-left-small:0px;\"><h2 class=\"fusion-title-heading title-heading-left\" style=\"margin:0;\"><strong>Curing and Grinding\/Honing Process<\/strong><\/h2><span class=\"awb-title-spacer\"><\/span><div class=\"title-sep-container\"><div class=\"title-sep sep-double sep-solid\" style=\"border-color:#e0dede;\"><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-4\"><p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"tlid-translation translation\" lang=\"en\"><span title=\"\">After only 2\/4 days of natural curing (<em>natural curing takes about 3 days, but this time decreases with increasing temperature and humidity, therefore, if desired, it is possible to spray some water on the tiles<\/em><\/span> <span class=\"\" title=\"\"><em>to speed up the seasoning process<\/em>), the tiles are picked up by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.omccaprella.it\/en\/portfolio-items\/automatic-feeding-conveyor-mod-om50s\"><strong>Automatic Feeding Conveyor Mod. OM50\/S<\/strong><\/a> and sent directly to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.omccaprella.it\/en\/portfolio-items\/linear-polishing-machines-mod-om800\"><strong>Linear Polisher Machine Mod. OM800<\/strong><\/a> for the finishing process.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The automatic conveyor deposits the tiles on a feeding track, equipped with a tilting device to rotate the visible face (<em><strong>First Layer<\/strong><\/em>) upwards, which sends them to an anti-abrasion conveyor belt that feeds the Polishing Machine.<br \/>\nAll our Polishing Machines use <strong>carborundum<\/strong> grinding wheels and the polishing is performed with a pneumatic system with automatic compensation to constantly adapt to the thickness of the tile while maintaining a uniform degree of finish.<br \/>\nEach single head has independent electric and pneumatic controls that prevent improper operations and allow to constantly adjust the wear of the grinding wheels.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">At the exit of the Polishing Machine, the tiles are collected and stored on wooden pallets, ready for delivery.<br \/>\nThis operation can be carried out both manually and through our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.omccaprella.it\/en\/portfolio-items\/automatic-palletizing-conveyor-mod-om50p\"><strong>Automatic Palletizing Conveyor Mod. OM50\/P<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">For the production of outdoor tiles without polishing, the final phase, after curing, involves automatic unloading through the <span class=\"tlid-translation translation\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"\" title=\"\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.omccaprella.it\/en\/portfolio-items\/automatic-feeding-conveyor-mod-om50s\"><strong>Automatic Feeding Conveyor Mod. OM50\/S<\/strong><\/a><\/span><\/span> and positioning on pallets using the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.omccaprella.it\/en\/portfolio-items\/automatic-palletizing-conveyor-mod-om50p\"><strong>Automatic Palletizing Conveyor Mod.
